Radon: The Silent Killer May Be Lurking in Your Home
You can’t see it, smell it, or taste it — yet radon could be silently putting your health at risk. In Canada, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, right after smoking, and the number one cause among non-smokers.
What’s even more concerning is that the Canadian Prairies have the second-highest residential radon levels in the world, surpassed only by Poland. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas released from the breakdown of uranium in rocks and soil. It can seep into homes through cracks in foundations, sump pumps, and other openings — often going undetected for years.
A Personal Story that Hits Close to Home
Malmo resident Greg Gazin knows firsthand how real this threat can be. When testing his own home in the Malmo community, Greg discovered dangerously high levels of radon. After having his home professionally mitigated, he dove deep into the science and solutions behind this invisible hazard.
