June 8, 2025

Hello Malmo Community League Members,

In this June eNewsletter, you'll find info about:

  • the outcome of the May 20 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

  • a call for Infrastructure Development Committee (IRC) members + upcoming June 10 meeting

  • a June 14 work bee at the Community Hall gardens

  • the upcoming June 14 Games Night at the Community Hall

  • the Green Shack program at the playground

  • the cancellation of the July Big Bin Event

  • a new "Three Lines Free" feature in the upcoming printed newsletter

  • the policy for Malmo website submissions

Outcome of the May 20 AGM

Thanks to everyone who turned out for the AGM; we had over 30 members attend, plus 2 guests from outside the community. The new bylaws were passed so the Community League now has a modernized, streamlined set of bylaws from which to operate. A motion was also passed to restart the Infrastructure Redevelopment Committee.

We have several new faces on the board, too. Deep gratitude to the outgoing board members and a warm welcome to the new and continuing members; it is amazing to have so many people who are interested in making Malmo an even better place to live.

Infrastructure Redevelopment Committee (IRC)

—> call for members

The IRC is looking at ways to improve and rejuvenate the Community Hall. They are still looking for 2-3 more Community League Members to join them. Their first meeting is Tuesday, June 10 at 7:30pm at the hall; there will be an option to attend the meeting remotely as well. If you are interested in being part of this important committee, please email Chris at facilities@malmoplains.com.

Work Bee (at the Community League garden) Sat, June 14

Calling all those who love to play in the dirt! If you have a shovel and work gloves and some free time on the morning of Saturday, June 14 between 9:30am and noon, come to the hall and help us move soil into the raised beds that were generously donated to the Community League by one of the nearby residents. Snacks are provided (and you can work up an appetite for the pizza and games night)!

Pizza and Games Night at the hall on Sat, June 14

Come and join the fun at the hall -- learn a new game or play an old favorite, and get to know some of your neighbours. The event starts at 4pm. If you are coming for food, show up at 5pm to be counted for the pizza order. Find more details on the Malmo Events page.

Green Shack Program

The Green Shack is back for another super-fun summer in Malmo near the school playground! It will operate Monday to Friday from 10:30am to 1:30pm starting July 2 and running until August 21. The program is targeted to kids ages 6-12 but all are welcome. Find out more about this City of Edmonton program here.

Malmo Big Bin Event - CANCELLED

Unfortunately, the Community League did not secure the funding to run a Big Bin event in Malmo this year so this event is NOT running in July as planned. However, there are still lots of FREE opportunities to get rid of junk and also FREE places to pick up toys and craft supplies.

The City of Edmonton has designated several FREE EcoStation weekends and is running other Big Bin events during the summer and into the fall. EcoStations also accept items for the Reuse Centre.

Looking for FREE games, puzzles, craft supplies? Check out the Reuse Centre at 6835 83 Street! There is always something new to discover there.
