Rent Malmo Hall + Michener Park Update

RENT MALMO HALL

Got a birthday party? Retirement bash? Small class reunion? Rent the hall! Check out https://www.malmoplains.com/hall for a current list of amenities and updated rates.

MICHENER PARK UPDATE

The storefronts in the existing strip mall buildings are nearly all leased or pending. The restaurant/patio space closest to the roundabout is pending, but no tenant has been announced quite yet. So far, there's no grocery tenant for the as-yet un-built space reserved for that on the east side of the retail development. More info in the Avison Young brochure.

The two big apartment buildings are progressing with exterior work nearly complete and there is signage along 122 Street that one of the buildings (Malmo Village) is already leasing units for those 55+. And work is underway on smaller structures/row housing.

UAPT New Website + Black Knot + Pre-K

UNIVERSITY PROPERTIES TRUST (UAPT) – NEW WEBSITE

If you are interested in developments on University of Alberta lands that are in and around Malmo, including the “West 240” piece that is west of 122 Street between Lansdowne and Grandview Heights, the University of Alberta Properties Trust (UAPT) has launched a new website. Check out www.uapt.ca for updates, information, and news and follow UAPT on social media.

TACKLE YOUR BLACK KNOT

Got a tree with black knot? Pruning in winter/early spring while the tree is dormant is ideal. Pruning is about more than just shaping your trees; it is a critical defence against Black Knot (Apiosporina morbosa), a common fungal disease that plagues Edmonton’s fruit and ornamental trees and can kill them if left untreated. The fungus spreads through spores during wet spring weather so be a great neighbour and plan now to rid your trees of this if you have it.

Not sure if you have black knot? It’s often described as looking like “scat on a stick”, it’s rough, black galls that girdle branches. Check out the link above for a photo and more information about dealing with it effectively.

MALMO PRE-KINDERGARTEN

Did you know that there’s a pre-school operating right here in Malmo? It’s a non-profit, parent-cooperative preschool for children ages three to five years and they offer morning and afternoon programs with small class sizes.

Registration is open throughout the year. Email malmo@malmopreschool.com or visit malmopreschool.com.

SHOUTOUTS

  • Cheery beer-y thanks to LISA and all the volunteers who set up, worked the bar, and cleaned up, and to JEFF and the band for putting together a rockin’ Pub Night. There were lots of good comments about the food truck, the snacks, the beer/wine, and most importantly, the connections made!
  • Dramatic thanks our hard-working president, C-ANNE, for arranging licensing for our movie night. We had fun watching The Princess Bride. It was great to have some young families and a few first-time watchers of this movie classic. Thanks also to LISA and KEN for setting up and running an awesome concession booth and to CHRIS for providing technical assistance. We hope to have more movie nights in the future!
  • Congratulations to the Lendrum Playground Committee for putting on a super-successful Wine & Charcuterie Night and Silent Auction at the hall. They raised $4467.32 for their playground. Thanks to everyone who came out to support this cause.
