Tribute to Dr. Bob Steadward
The Neighbour Who Helped Build the Paralympic Movement
Did you know that a former resident of Malmo is a true national and international treasure? Read Greg Gazin’s article about Dr. Bob, who made a deep impact on Edmonton, Canada and the world with his work for the Paralympic community and many other community causes.
“Sometimes the most amazing stories live right next door.” Congratulations, Dr. Bob!
EFCL Bike Challenge: June 1 to 30
Do you love riding your bike? Do you bike to work, to school or just for fun around the neighbourhood? Log your kilometres for Malmo and compete with other Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues cyclists.
Check out all the details on the EFCL website. How far can you go?
Volleyball Courts Are Open
The sand courts are cleaned and open for you to play with friends and family. June is fairly open, but check the Sports Calendar regularly for availability. In July and August, Fridays through Sundays are reserved for Malmo residents to enjoy the courts.
Summer Exercise Program: Age Reversing ESSENTRICS
This is the 1-hour Reverse Aging ESSENTRICS course, mainly using isometric movements with no weights required. Some movements are on the floor. The class works hips and legs to help with balance, as well as shoulders and wrists. It’s a full body workout, but a gentle one.

- Time: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
- Location: Malmo Hall
- Length: 8 weeks, with no class on July 1
- Cost: $75/person
The program is open to people outside of Malmo, so invite a friend along.

Shoutouts and Three Lines Free
Shoutouts
- Musical thanks to Rebecca and the Malmo Community Choir for the marvelous concert on May 4. It was fun to hear some favourite tunes and then meet with friends and neighbours afterwards for some lovely food.
- Sweeping thanks to Chris, Murray, Sharon, Len, Steve, Linda, Patricia, Lisa and Connie for cleaning up the hall grounds and sand courts in early May. Special thanks to our MP, Heather McPherson, who came and helped pick trash and debris around the sand courts. It was a nice surprise to have her join us in the morning.
- A great deal of thanks to Maureen for organizing, to David for planting the seed, and to all the marvelously diverse Malmo vendors who made Malmo’s Spring Market a success. Massive congratulations to all of you, and we look forward to another market in November.
